About CET Karnataka Top

The Karnataka Common Entrance Test 2009 is being conducted for the purpose of determining the eligibility / merit, for admission of Karnataka candidates and the ward of Jammu & Kashmiri imigrants to the First Year or First Semester of full time courses in Medical, Dental, Ayurveda, Homoeopathy, Unani, Naturopathy & Yoga, Engineering, Technology courses and NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture) conducted by the Council of Architecture for Architecture course, in Government / University / Private Aided / Private Un-Aided professional educational institutions in the state of Karnataka

Eligibility for Goverment Seats Top

The candidate should have studied and passed in one or more Government or Government recognised educational institutions located in the State of Karnataka for a minimum period of SEVEN academic years commencing from 1 standard to 2 PUC / 12 standard as on 1 July of the year in which the Entrance Test is held and must have appeared and passed either SSLC / 10 standard or nd th 2 PUC / 12 standard examination from Karnataka State.
In case of the candidate who had taken more than one year to pass a class or standard, the years of academic study is counted as one year only.
OR
The candidate should have studied and passed both 1st and 2nd year Pre-University Examination or 11th and 12th standard examination within the State of Karnataka from an Educational Institution run or recognized by the State Government and that either of the parents should have studied in Karnataka for a minimum period of SEVEN years.
OR
The candidate and either of his / her parent's mother tongue should be Kannada, Tulu or Kodava and either of parents was domiciled in the state of Karnataka, such candidate should have passed the qualifying examination from a University or Board or any other Institution located outside Karnataka and should be residing outside the State of Karnataka as on 1st July of 2009. Provided that the candidate shall undergo a Kannada Language test conducted by KEA
NOTE: The candidates claiming eligibility under clauses above, should invariably speak, read and write Kannada. Otherwise, they will not be assigned ranks.
OR
A candidate whose mother tongue is Kannada, Tulu or Kodava should have resided and studied for a period of SEVEN YEARS between 1 and 12 standards in disputed Kannada speaking area of South Sholapur or Akkalkot or Jath or Gadhinglaj Taluks of Maharashtra State or Kasargod or Hosadurga Taluks of Kerala State. Provided that the candidate shall undergo a Kannada Language test conducted by KEA.
NOTE: The candidates claiming eligibility under clauses above, should invariably speak, read and write Kannada. Otherwise, they will not be assigned ranks.
OR
In the case of a candidate who is son or daughter of defense personnel who has worked continuously in Karnataka for a minimum period of one year between 1 July of 2008 to 30 June of 2009. The candidate should have studied and passed the qualifying examination from any Government or Government recognized educational institution located in the State of Karnataka.
OR
Son or daughter of serving Defense personnel from Karnataka who at the time of joining the Defense service had declared his / her hometown a place in the State of Karnataka. Proof of such domicile should be obtained and produced by obtaining the extract from the Record Office of the Defense unit. Further, the candidate should have passed the Q. E. from a University or Board or any other institution located anywhere in India.
OR
In the case of a candidate who is a son or daughter of a defense personnel who had served in Karnataka for at least one year and is posted on duty in Field / Active Service and whose family is permitted by Defense Authorities to continue to stay in Karnataka. Such candidate should have studied and passed the qualifying examination from any Government or Government recognised educational institution located in Karnataka.
OR
Son or daughter of an ex-servicemen who at the time of joining the defense service had declared a place in Karnataka as his home town, proof of such domicile should be obtained and produced from the “Deputy Director, Department of Sainik Welfare and Resettlement”. Further, the candidate should have passed the Q. E. from a University or Board or any other institution located anywhere in India.
OR
In the case of a candidate being a son or daughter of an employee of the Union Government or an employee of the Union or Karnataka State Government Undertaking or Joint Sector Undertaking, who  is liable to be transferred anywhere in India as per the terms and conditions of his employment and has worked in Karnataka for a minimum period of one year from 1 July of 2008 to 30 June of 2009 and such candidate has studied and passed the qualifying examination from any Government or Government recognized educational institution located in the State of Karnataka.
OR
Son or daughter of a working or retired employee of the Union Government or employee of Union or Karnataka State Government undertaking or Joint Sector undertaking where such employee; (a) had declared to the employer at the time of joining service any place in Karnataka to be his home town; and (b) had studied in any Government or Government recognized educational institution or institutions located in Karnataka for a minimum period of seven years; and was or is liable to be transferred anywhere in India as per the terms and conditions of his employment. Further, the candidate should have passed the Q. E. from a University or Board or any other institution located anywhere in India.
OR
Son or daughter of Members of Parliament elected from Karnataka. Further, the candidate should have passed the Q. E. from a University or Board or any other institution located anywhere in India.
OR
Son or daughter of serving or retired employee:
(a) belonging to All India Service of Karnataka cadre; and
(b) of the Karnataka State Government,
who has served or is serving outside the State of Karnataka during the period corresponding to Candidate's study outside the State from 1 standard to 2 PUC or 12 standard examination can be added to make up the seven years study within Karnataka as required under clause (a) above.
OR
Son or daughter of Jammu & Kashmiri migrants, proof of such migration (IDENTITY CARD) should be obtained and produced from the jurisdictional “District Magistrate and Deputy Commissioner” of any state in India.

Mode of Test Top

In order to obtain admission to any of the professional courses through KEA, a candidate must appear for the Common Entrance Test, which will be conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority, Bangalore.
Exams details:

Biology - 60 Marks - 80 mins duration
Mathematics - 60 Marks - 80 mins duration
Physics - 60 Marks - 80 mins duration
Chemistry - 60 Marks - 80 mins duration
Kannada Language Test - 80 mins duration

The candidates claiming eligibility for Government seats under Horanadu & Gadinadu Kannadiga clauses and whose mother tongue is Kannada, Tulu or Kodava,will have to undergo a Kannada language test, to establish their ability to speak, read and write Kannada.

Each question paper will be of (Objective) Multiple Choice type. The question paper in each subject will be in 16 different versions and each question will have four different options. Each question will carry ONE mark. The candidate is expected to attempt all the questions, in order to obtain maximum marks. In other words, there is no choice among questions.

THERE IS NO NEGATIVE EVALUATION WITH REGARD TO WRONG ANSWERS BUT MARKS WILL NOT BE AWARDED IN RESPECT OF MULTIPLE ANSWERS.


Eligibility criteria for various courses Top

(a) For Medical / Dental courses : the applicant should have passed Karnataka 2 PUC / 12 std. or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects and with English as one of the languages of study and have obtained a minimum of 50% of marks in aggregate in the PCB group and should secure a minimum of 50% of marks in aggregate in PCB subjects in the Common Entrance Test. In case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes (Category-1, 2A, 2B, 3A and 3B), the minimum marks for the purpose of eligibility will be 40% of marks in aggregate in PCB group both in Qualifying Examination and Common Entrance Test.

(b) For Ayurveda / Homoeopathy / Unani / Naturopathy & Yoga courses :  the applicant should have passed Karnataka 2nd PUC/ 12th std. or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects and with English as one of the languages of study and have obtained a minimum of 50% of marks in aggregate in PCB group irrespective of marks obtained in the Common Entrance Test. In case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes (Category-1, 2A, 2B, 3A and 3B), the minimum marks for the purpose of eligibility will be 40% of marks in aggregate in PCB group in the qualifying examination.

For admission to Medical / Dental / Ayurveda / Homoeopathy / Unani / Naturopathy & Yoga courses, the candidate should have completed the age of 17 years as on 31st of December 2009.

(c) For Engineering / Technology courses : the applicant should have passed Karnataka 2 PUC / 12 Std. or equivalent examination with Physics and Mathematics along with Chemistry / Bio-Technology / Computer Science / Electronics / Biology as optional subjects with English as one of the languages of study and obtained a minimum of 45% of marks in aggregate in the optional subjects, irrespective of marks obtained in the Common Entrance Test.
In case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes (Category-1, 2A, 2B, 3A and 3B), the minimum marks for the purpose of eligibility will be 40% of marks in aggregate in the optional subjects in the qualifying examination.

(d) For Architecture course : the applicant should have passed Karnataka 2 PUC / 12 Std. or equivalent examination with Mathematics as a compulsory optional subject and obtained a minimum of 50% of marks in aggregate in all the subjects in the qualifying examination (45% of marks in case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes (Category-1, 2A, 2B, 3A and 3B)] and should compulsorily appear for NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture) and get a minimum of 40% in it. (Including Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes)

Syllabus Top

The question papers of the Common Entrance Test will be mostly based on the First and Second PUC syllabi prescribed by the Department of Pre-University Education of Karnataka State.

which courses can my daughter take
My daughter is promoted to 9th, icse. if she chooses science, evs, computer application along with languages, history civics, geography & eve. what courses can she take? what is the scope here? should she change her combination?
please let me know.
