WHY YOU SHOULD JOIN?
The main aim of the course is to develop a pool of technically trained
manpower readily available for recruitment to the Indian Power Sector.
Besides, the course shall enhance the knowledge and skills of the
engineers sponsored by the State Electricity Boards, Power Utilities
etc.
ABOUT THE COURSE: This is a modular course of one-year duration. Formal coaching is held at Regional Institutes of NPTI Located at 1. Nagpur (Maharashtra). 2. Badarpur (New Delhi) 3. Durgapur (WB) 4. Neyveli (TN) 5. Guwahati (Assam) and 6. Nangal (Punjab).
On-job training is conducted at the nearby Thermal Power Stations and
the training on state-of-the-art Simulator at NPTI
Faridabad/Badarpur/Nagpur. The course profile covers the mandatory
requirements under Indian Electricity Amendment Rules 1981, which stipulates "No
person shall be authorized to operate or undertake maintenance of any
part or whole of generating station of capacity 100 MW and above
together with the associated sub-station unless he is adequately
qualified and has undergone the specified training at a recognized
Institute".

The duration of CET will be 150 minutes.The question paper will consist of multiple-choice objective questions
Part-I General Aptitude (including basic mathematics/ basic Science / Language / Analytical Reasoning / Data interpretation etc,
Number of questions : 60
Part-II General Engineering
Number of questions : 30
Part-III Subject specialization paper in line with the qualifying Examination. The candidate should select one group only.

G-I Mechanical, Mechanical & Automation, Production Engineering or Equivalent G-II Electrical, Electrical & Instrumentation, Electrical & Electronics Engineering or Equivalent G-III Electronics, Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering, Control, Control & Instrumentation or Equivalent
Number of questions : 90
Each correct answer will be worth two (2) marks. Incorrect answer will result in negative marking worth half (1/2) a mark.
BTech / BE or
equivalent in Mechanical / Electrical / Electronics / Power / Control
and Instrumentation Engineering. Those appearing in their final year
examination can also apply. However, they must submit their provisional degree at the time of counseling.
SELECTION CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION: Merit based on a Common Entrance Test (CET) result followed by counseling. CET will be held on 20/06/2010 at 8 centres (Faridabad, Badarpur, Nagpur, Durgapur, Neyveli, Bangalore, Guwahati and Nangal.)
AGE LIMIT: For non-sponsored candidates the age limit as on 31/08/2010 is 30 years. No age limit forthe sponsored candidates.
TOTAL SEATS: 340 Reservation for OBC/SC/ ST/ physically challenged as per Govt of India norms. 25% seats are reserved for candidates sponsored from Power Utilities having more than one year experience as on the date of counseling and more than 60% marks in Engineering Degree. The seat allocation of the Institutes is shown below
