(as may be applicable). For example, a candidate interested in applying for MTech programme, should super-scribe on his/her envelope as ‘Request for MTech Application form’.
Filled
in application forms complete with copies of mark sheets/certificates
and other testimonials and a DD for Rs.150/- (Rs.75/- for SC/ST/PD
candidates) drawn in any nationalized bank and payable at Guwahati in
favour of Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati should be sent
to the Head of the concerned Department (as may be applicable), Indian
Institute of Technology Guwahati, Guwahati – 781039, Assam, to reach on
or before 13 APRIL 2011. The words “Application for MTech/MDes
admission” (as may be applicable) should be written on the top of the
envelope for sending the completed form. For example, a candidate

Master of Design (MDes)
Minimum CPI of 6.0 or 55% of marks in the qualifying degree/diploma as indicated below:
Note:
(a) All
regular category candidates (except those having BTech/BDes degrees
from an IIT with a minimum CPI of 7.0) must possess a valid score of all
India Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED). For eligibility
for financial assistance for regular category candidates, please see the
section “Financial Support” below.
(b) Minimum
experience required for Sponsored (Full-time), Self-Financed, and
Part-Time categories of candidates, have been indicated below.
4-year Bachelors’ degree or equivalent in Design, Engineering, Architecture, Interior Design or a Design related field.
OR
4-year Professional Diploma in Design of NID or Professional Diploma of CEPT (5-year programme)
MININMUM EXPERIENCE FOR SPONSORED FULL-TIME AND PART-TIME CATEGORIES OF APPLICANTS FOR MDES PROGRAMME
1. Candidate
in Sponsored Full-Time and Part-time categories must be a regular
employee of the sponsoring organization with at least 2(two) years of
professional experience in the respective field.
2. Candidates in Self-financed category should have at least 2(two) years of professional experience in the respective field.
Selection: - The
Institute reserves the right to call a limited number of candidates for
written test or/and interview/portfolio review, if required, based on
performance in GATE/CEED, grades/marks in the qualifying examination,
etc.
Relaxation for SC/ST/PD Candidates: Eligibility criteria will be relaxed by 5% marks or 0.5 CPI for SC/ST/PD applicants.
MTech (Mechanical Engineering)
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology in an appropriate area and a valid GATE score in:
(a) `ME’ for the specializations of (i) Fluids and Thermal Engineering, and (ii) Machine Design; and
(b) `ME’ or `PI’ for the specialization of “Computer Assisted Manufacturing” only.
MTech (Electronics and Communication Engineering) Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/ Electronics Engineering or Equivalent or MSc(Electronics) and a valid GATE score in EC/EE
MTech (Biotechnology)
Master’s
degree in Science or 4-year Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, with
biology or related subjects as one of the papers at the 10+2 level or
later, along with a valid GATE score in related disciplines.
MTech (Civil Engineering)
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology in an appropriate area and a valid GATE score in:
(a) `CE’ for the specializations of (i) Structural Engineering, (ii)
Geotechnical Engineering, (iii) Environmental Engineering, (iv)
Transportation Systems Engineering, and (v) Infrastructure Engineering
and Management; and
(b) `CE’ or `AG’ for the specialization of “Water Resources Engineering and Management” only.
Eligibility Criteria for Admission into MTech Programme
Minimum
CPI of 6.5 or 60% of marks or First Class in the qualifying degree,
fulfilling specific requirements for different disciplines, as indicated
below:

(a) All
regular category candidates (except those having BTech degrees from an
IIT with a minimum CPI of 7.0) must possess a valid score of Graduate
Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). For eligibility for financial
assistance for regular category candidates, please see the section

MA (Development Studies)Eligibility for me=MA Candidates: - A
Bachelor’s Degree of minimum 3 years’ duration or its equivalent from a
recognized University, in any discipline with a minimum average of 50 %
marks or 5.5 CPI in a 10-point scale.
Candidates
still to appear in their final Bachelor’s Degree examinations may also
apply, provided they appear in all their qualifying degree examinations
and complete all requirements for their degrees before 19-07-2011. If
selected, such candidates shall be admitted provisionally, and they will
have to furnish the results of their qualifying degree examinations
latest by 02-09-2011. Further, they must obtain the minimum required
marks/CPI mentioned above. Failure to fulfill either of the two
requirements shall automatically result in cancellation of admission.
Eligibility for Sponsored MA Candidates: - Same
as for `Regular’ candidates, but also fulfilling additional conditions
specified for Sponsored (Full-Time) candidates, as indicated under “Categories of Students for MA Programme”.
Selection: - Applicants
satisfying the eligibility requirement will be assessed for selection
through a written test. The written test aims at assessment of knowledge
about contemporary issues in the field and sensitivity to social
issues, expressed through written analysis in English.
Relaxation for SC/ST/PD Candidates: Eligibility criteria will be relaxed by 5% marks or 0.5 CPI for SC/ST/PD applicants. PhDEligibility Criteria for Admission into PhD Programme: - Minimum
CPI or Percentage of marks in the qualifying degree, with specific
requirements for different streams, has been indicated below:

For
admission to the PhD Programme in the department of Humanities and
Social Sciences (HSS), a candidate must satisfy one of the following
criteria:
(i) Master’s degree in Arts/Commerce/Science in a relevant area with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent.
(ii) Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology/Design in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% marks.
(iii)Bachelor’s degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0.
(iv) Bachelor’s
degree in Engineering/Technology/Design (from other than IITs) in a
relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70% marks.
MININMUM EXPERIENCE FOR SPONSORED, SELF-FINANCED, PART-TIME AND EXTERNAL CATEGORIES OF APPLICANTS FOR PHD PROGRAMME
1. Candidate
in Sponsored, Part-time and External categories must be a regular
