ADMISSION PROCEDURE NIMCET 2012 application form is common for appearing for Entrance Test and for counseling for admission to MCA at all the eleven participating NITs offering MCA programme. Participating Institutes are NITs at Agartala, Allahabad, Bhopal, Calicut, Durgapur, Jamshedpur, Kurukshetra, Raipur, Surathkal, Tiruchirappalli and Warangal.
Candidates are not required to apply separately to any NIT for admission to MCA programme. The admission to MCA programme in all the 11 participating NITs will be based on NIMCET-2012 rank and choices to be opted by the candidates during the counseling/admission process.
Details of the counseling process is given below and any changes shall be notified on http://nimcet2012.nitw.ac.in website in due course of time. The candidates are advised to check this website regularly for updates.
NIMCET-2012 will have four rounds of counseling and candidate will be given one week time for filling choices online before first round of counseling.
Candidates declared eligible in NIMCET-2012 will be allowed to fill the choices of Institutes in to which the candidate wishes to take admission into MCA programme.
Candidates are required to use their login and password to fill these choices of institutes through online from their place of convenience. All the eligible candidates are required to lock their choices between 07th and 13th June 2012 till 5.00 pm. However, automatic lock will be put on choices of all the candidates after 5 pm on 13-6- 2012. Final seat allotments will be made on the basis of his/her rank and institute choice locked.
The following options can be exercised by the candidates after the first, second and third round of allotments:
Option-1 candidates: Candidates who wish to finalise the seat allotted to them and wish to join in the institute allotted to them. (Their higher preference choices, if any, will be ignored in subsequent rounds).
Option-2 candidates: Candidates who wish to be considered in the next round for all of their higher preference choices (i.e. across institutes).
Remote reporting center: Any participating NIT whichever is near the candidate’s residence Initial fee: Payment is in the form of DD for Rs.10,000/- drawn in favour of “NIMCET-2012” payable at Warangal

National Institutes of Technology (NITs) are Institutes of National Importance and are Centrally Funded Technical Institutes. The NIMCET is NIT MCA Common Entrance Test, a National Level Test conducted by NITs for admission in to their MCA programme. The admission to the MCA prgoramme in to NITs at Agartala, Allahabad, Bhopal, Calicut, Durgapur, Jamshedpur, Kurukshetra, Raipur, Surathkal, Tiruchirappalli and Warangal for the year 2012-13 is be based on the Rank obtained in NIMCET-2012 ONLY. The Curriculum and Syllabi of Master of Computer Applications (MCA) programme offered by NITs are designed considering the needs of different Information Technology Firms in India and abroad. MCA graduates have high potential for jobs in IT Sector.
- The duration of NIMCET examination will be for a period of two
hours and will consist of 120 multiple choice questions with four
choices for each question.
- Candidates have to bring their own HB pencil, eraser and black ball point pen.
- Calculators, mobile phones or any other material are not allowed in the examination hall.
The question paper will contain 120 multiple choice questions covering the following topics: 1. Mathematics 50 questions 2. Analytical Ability & Logical Reasoning 40 questions 3. Computer Awareness 10 questions 4. General English 20 questions
Each correctly answered question will carry
FOUR marks and each wrongly answered question will lead to NEGATIVE ONE
mark. The candidates have to mark the responses in the OMR sheets at
the time of examination.
Indian Nationals securing atleast 60% marks aggregate or 6.5/10 CGPA (55% marks or 6.0/10 CGPA for SC, ST category) in
(i) 12th (i.e. 10 + 2) level or equivalent, with Mathematics as
one of the subjects at either 10+1 or 10+2 level or at both the levels
AND (ii)
Qualifying Degree - Bachelor’s Degree of Full time* 3 year or more
duration from a recognized University with at least one of the
following as a chosen subject of study:
Mathematics, Statistics, Business Mathematics, Business Statistics, Discrete Mathematics,
Mathematical Foundations of Computer Science, Computational Mathematics,
Elementary Mathematics, Elementary Statistics are eligible to apply for NIMCET-2012.
- The percentages of marks in 10+2 and qualifying degree are to be
calculated on the basis of marks obtained in all the subjects
(including optional subjects, if any ) studied.
* Students who have completed/completing qualifying degree
(programme of three year or more duration) from Open Universities are
eligible to apply provided their programme is approved by UGC or AICTE
and Distance Education Council (DEC) of Govt. of India.
@The candidates who are appearing for all the qualifying examination are also
eligible to apply for NIMCET-2012. Such candidates shall have to
furnish the the proof of fulfilling the eligibility criteria of
NIMCET-2012 preferably at the time of Counseling/Admission but not
later than 31st August, 2012, failing which their admission is liable to be cancelled by the respective NITs.

MATHEMATICS : (50 questions)
Set Theory: Concepts of sets – Union – Intersection – Cardinality – Elementary counting; permutations and combinations.
Probability and Statistics: Basic concepts of probability theory, Averages, Dependent and independent events, frequency distributions, measures of central tendencies and dispersions.
Algebra: Fundamental operations in Algebra, Expansions, Factorization, simultaneous linear / quadratic equations, indices, logarithms, arithmetic, geometric and harmonic progressions, determinants and matrices.
Coordinate Geometry: Rectangular Cartesian coordinates, distance formulae, equation of a line, intersection of lines, pair of straight lines, equations of a circle, parabola, ellipse, and hyperbola.
Calculus: Limit of functions, Continuous function, Differentiation of function, tangents and normals, simple examples of maxima and minima. Integration of function by parts, by substitution and by partial fraction; Definite integrals, Applications of Definite Integrals to areas.
Vectors: Position vector, addition and subtraction of vectors, scalar and vector products and their applications to simple geometrical problems and mechanics.
Trigonometry: Simple identities, trigonometric equations, properties of triangles, solution of triangles, heights and distances, General solutions of trigonometric equations.
ANALYTICAL ABILITY AND LOGICAL REASONING : (40 questions)
The questions in this section will cover logical situation and questions based on the facts given in the passage.
COMPUTER AWARENESS: (10 questions)
Computer Basics:
Organization of a Computer, Central Processing Unit (CPU), Structure of
instructions in CPU, input/output devices, computer memory, back-up
devices. Data Representation: Representation of characters,
integers and fractions, binary and hexadecimal representations: Binary
Arithmetic: Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, simple
arithmetic and two’s complement arithmetic, floating point
representation of numbers, Boolean algebra, truth tables, Venn diagrams.
GENERAL ENGLISH: (20 questions) Questions in this
section will be designed to test the candidates’ general understanding
of the English language. There will be questions on the following
topics: Comprehension, Vocabulary, Basic English Grammar (like usage
of correct forms of verbs, prepositions and articles), Word power,
Synonyms and Antonyms, Meanings of words and phrases, Technical
writing.
